Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet” — Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Success doesn’t come easily. It is a combination of setbacks, failures, and disappointments. It is an arduous journey, a gradual climb up the mountain with no guarantee that you’ll reach the summit. It HARDLY ever happens overnight. It is something to be valued, be revered. But it’s also something we tend to dismiss or look past when we’re too impatient or just not want to try anymore. We need patience for our dreams to come true and for us to be happy with what we do have. We often wrongly assume that wealth or high physical strength are the only measures of a successful life. However, more than one’s physical skills or material wealth, it is patience that guides people towards greatness in their respective fields.

I think the real trick to being patient is to have some kind of motivation. Don’t lose hope and you’ll never be disappointed again. Having a goal also helps because you will keep working towards it. Being patient can help us through tough times in life or even for better days. It helps to get a healthy attitude toward life, improves the ability to accept setbacks, and helps seek more gratitude for life. We take stress on so many things such as choosing the right university, getting the right job, or just trying to get a better job opportunity. We shouldn’t worry about those things because there will always be other choices and different options to choose from. There are more opportunities than most people can ever even fathom. As it is said, Good things come to those who wait. Also, we need it when we try something new and don’t get good results the first time around. Patience enables us to analyze things and situations beyond their face value. It has become extremely important to have patience in this modern chaotic world.

Impatience clouds our reasoning and can make us behave rudely or inconsiderately. Consequently, an impatient person is likely to offend other people with his behavior. Hence, if you care about your relationships, you must be patient and also focus on the good things , life has offered.

The resourcefulness, calm, empathetic behavior, and self-control of patient people can make them very successful. It also gives inner peace and the ability to smile despite challenges. It is almost impossible to exaggerate the importance of patience in life. As patience is sometimes called the mother of all virtues.

“If you are careful,’ Garp wrote, ‘if you use good ingredients, and you don’t take any shortcuts, then you can usually cook something very good. Sometimes it is the only worthwhile product you can salvage from a day; what you make to eat. With writing, I find, you can have all the right ingredients, give plenty of time and care, and still get nothing. Also true of love. Cooking, therefore, can keep a person who tries hard sane.”
John Irving, The World According to Garp
